RECREATION - SPRING/SUMMER

The Tonka United Recreation Spring/Summer season provides players, ages PreK - high school, the opportunity to develop life skills and physical skills in a game-based, less competitive atmosphere. The focus is on fun, participation, inclusion, and building community. Leagues are formed based on grade in school and gender. The spring/summer playing season runs for 8-9 weeks in April through June. All teams are coached by parent volunteers. There are no team practices scheduled, just games, but Tonka United offers Tonka Juniors classes and Total Technical skills trainings throughout each game season.

VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENT FOR REC PROGRAM

The Tonka United Recreation Program is a volunteer based program and has been for over 40 successful years. Over the past few years it has become harder and harder to have enough volunteers to coach, assist with fields, put on the season ending Tonka Blast event, etc. After many years of not requiring families to volunteer & surveying other community sports programs, Tonka United has decided to implement a volunteer requirement. A volunteer deposit will be collected at the time of registration. We have many volunteer opportunities across the season to choose from which will allow for a return of your deposit once your family volunteer obligation is fulfilled. We understand families are busy so this is also seen as the ability to opt out of volunteer hours; the deposit is simply not refunded. Your volunteer time is not only needed, it is a way for you to connect with your child, their friends, and the community.

Find more information and details on the  VOLUNTEERS PAGE of the website.

Get involved. Make a difference. Find connection.

IMPORTANT SEASON INFORMATION

Volunteer Requirement

A $100 volunteer deposit is charged to the family account at the time of seasonal registration. If you select NO to volunteer at time of registration, that is considered an opt-out of the obligation and you will not be refunded the deposit.

  • Three (maximum) rostered coaches per team will be refunded the volunteer deposit.
  • Other than coaching, most volunteer shifts within the club are about 2 hours; sign-ups via SignUp Genius.
  • Only one shift per family is required.
  • After fulfillment of volunteer obligation, the $100 will be refunded back to the credit card charged at registration.
  • Refunds will be processed at the end of the month of service (Coaches refunds are processed at the end of May).

UNIFORM KIT 2023 - 2025

  • Players select their own number
  • Full kit includes Blue jersey, Red jersy, Blue shorts & Blue socks

Equipment & Safety

  • No jewelery allowed - all earrings, bracelets, necklaces MUST BE REMOVED prior to players participating in all games; players who do not remove jewelery will not be allowed to play
  • Uniforms required
  • Shin guards required
  • Soccer cleats recommended, tennis shoes allowed
  • Soccer ball sizes:

     > Size 3: PreSchool - 1st Grade

     > Size 4: 2nd grade - 4th grade

     > Size 5: 5th grade - High School

Team Formation

During the registration process, you are given the chance to designate one friend with whom your child would like to play. During team formation, we will honor only one mutual friend request. This means that the friend must request your child as well in order for that request to be honored. For example, Sarah requests to be placed on a team with Anne, and Anne requests to be placed on a team with Sarah.

Beyond the friend request, we will also try to place players on a team with at least some players from their school or neighborhood. However, registration numbers and the number of players from each school dictate final team formation.

Parent Coaches

Volunteer parent coaches are vital to the success of our Recreation Program! You can register to volunteer at the same time you register your player for the season. No experience is required.

  • In-person coaches clinic opportunites
  • Coaching mobile app for planning practices
  • A Head Coach t-shirt (One assistant coach per team will also receive a t-shirt)
  • Coaching equipment provided
  • Volunteer hours completed (Volunteer Deposit refunded in May)

All Head Coaches and Assistant Coaches must complete a background check, concussion training, and abuse prevention training through Player's Health (online platform).
