ABOUT US

Tonka United’s journey began in 1977, when Victor Anderson turned a recreation team into something bigger. Inspired by his son and a group of talented young players, Anderson believed these kids could do more than kick the ball around, they could compete, grow, and lead.

Dozens of phone calls and conversations later, a new idea was born at the Anderson family’s kitchen table: Tonka United. By 1978, the club’s first team, a group of 13-14-year-old boys, took the field.

The name “United” reflected Anderson’s philosophy: soccer should bring people together, build character, and inspire joy. Team spirit, sportsmanship, and a love for the game became the foundation of Tonka United Soccer Association.

What started with one team has since grown into a vibrant soccer community with thousands of players, families, and supporters. Today, Tonka United offers Recreational and Competitive programming for every age and skill level, from preschool through adult. More than just a place to play, Tonka United helps youth develop physically, mentally, and emotionally, guided by values like teamwork, perseverance, respect, and fun.

Nearly five decades later, Tonka United continues to thrive as a cornerstone of the Minnetonka and Hopkins communities. With dedicated coaches, volunteers, and families, the club is still fueled by the same passion that first brought it to life at a kitchen table, and it remains committed to shaping not just players, but leaders for life.
